Funding Of Services

Ways in which your care and support can be funded.

Local authority social care funding (means tested)

Your local council will complete a social care assessment and decide if and how much support you need, if you meet this, they will then allocate you a personal budget in one of the following options.

  • A budget which the local authority will manage and arrange for a provider to deliver this. They will place the care order and directly pay the care provider, using this method the care provider has to complete the hours and tasks requested by the social worker.
  • Direct payments which is where your personal budget is paid to you or a company that provide support to manage direct payments, you are then free to contract with a provider of your choice and have more control on how and when support is provided.
  • Local authority funding will only pay for basic essential support but you are able to top this up to pay for things that are important to you but not covered. To find out more contact your local authority adult social care department.

Continuing health funding (not means tested)

Some disabilities and long-term illnesses will qualify for NHS continuing health funding from your local clinical commissioning group more information can be found on www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/money-work-and-benefits/nhs-continuing-healthcare/

Privately funded by you or your family giving you complete control over care and support
